IN DECEMBER, THE MELBOURNE PUBLIC WILL BE TREATED TO THE PREMIER SCREENING OF THE ART EPIC, THE RUN UP. FEATURING 26 OF THE MOST EMINENT ARTISTS OF TODAY, THE RUN UP IS A VISUAL AND HISTORICAL REPRESENTATION OF CONTEMPORARY ART. THE DOCUMENTARY IS COMPOSED OF ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEWS WITH THE ARTISTS, DEPICTING THEIR PERSONAL JOURNEY TO FINDING THEIR ARTISTIC STYLE, AS WELL AS CREATING A SPACE FOR THEMSELVES WITHIN THE ART WORLD.

FEATURING A VARIETY OF FINE, GRAFFITI AND STREET ARTISTS, DESIGNERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS, DIRECTORS SHAUN ROBERTS AND JOEY GARFIELD FILMED THE ARTISTS IN A SEQUENCE OF VIGNETTES, WITH EACH SEGMENT REVEALING THE ARTISTS’ VISIONS AND THE INSPIRATIONS BEHIND THEIR ARTWORK.

   

SHAUN ROBERTS,
PRODUCER / DIRECTOR

Shaun Roberts is a San Francisco-based director / documentarian and principal of Triplewide Design Collective, a multidisciplinary creative studio he founded in 2002 while still attending college. Shaun graduated valedictorian of his class in 2003 and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In 2002, his first DVD project “Bay Area Exports” was recognized with the Adobe™ Design Achievement Award at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

Shauns collaborations with Upper Playground films began on the DITHERS project, where he worked as an art director and post production technical advisor as well as shared editing credit on a selection of featured artists. Since then Shaun has focused on directing web spots, video promos, and creating art installations for such brands as Adidas, Rbk, Finish Line, Ride Snowboards, Caterpillar Footwear, Levi Strauss & Co., K-Swiss, Sneaker Pimps and JB Classics.

He has recently completed his first documentary project titled, “The Run Up – An Artist Documentation Series”, a series of 25 vignettes on some of the most prolific artists and creators of todays urban contemporary art scene.
